Role

The Application Engineering team at SKF Canada is seeking an Application Engineering Technician to work from the head office in Scarborough, ON.  The main responsibility of the Application Engineering Technician will be to manage the technical support desk, communicating directly through email or phone, in response to technical inquiries regarding our product.  These inquiries will come from any and all existing and potential customers, as well as from colleagues internally.  The inquiries can cover any of SKF’s product, including bearings, seals, lubrication, mounted products, and maintenance products. 

 

Some typical questions might include:

  • Identification of parts
  • Product specifications, drawings, and comparison to competitor product
  • Basic advice on application of product

 

The Application Engineering Technician will also oversee the work of others helping on the technical support desk, ensuring that inquiries are prioritized and being responded to in a timely manner, and checking for accuracy of work where needed.

 

The Application Engineering Technician is expected to work within their limits and to escalate inquiries to application engineers or other departments as needed.

 

Depending on their aptitude, the Application Engineering Technician may also have the opportunity to assist with other more technical projects within the Application Engineering department.

 

Extensive training will be provided and prior knowledge of SKF’s product line is not necessary.  The successful candidate will be supported by our engineers across the country for guidance and mentorship.

 

Qualifications
  • Mechanically inclined, with the ability to understand and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Education or work experience in mechanical or similar field preferred
  • Bilingual French & English preferred, but not required
