Job Summary: Installs, repairs and maintains Electrical/Electronic systems and equipment per specifications and according to prescribed and/or acceptable methods. Maintain Heat Treat equipment per SKF procedures

 

Immediate Supervisor: Supervisor and/or Unit Manager

 

Instructions Received: Supervisor and/or Unit Manager

 

Direction Exercised: Instructs apprentices, new or learner electricians and electricians in procedures for troubleshooting manufacturing and facility electrical maintenance. Instructs and aids the above in the use of Electronic Repair and test Equipment.

 

Education Requirements: As of June l, 1994 must posses a high school diploma or GED.

 

Work Experience Requirements: Must possess a certified journeyman card or have 8 years of documented work within the trade, in an industrial environment. Documented military experience will be considered.

 

Machines and Equipment: Electrical/Electronic Testing equipment, Emery Jack, Pneumatic Hammer, Threading Machine or Hand Dies, Soldering equipment, Electric Drill, Ladders and other related machine shop equipment.

 

Tools used: Hand tools as required, Machinists Rule, Tape Measure, Oscilloscope, Drive System and Control Diagnostic Kits, computers, and another assorted test equipment as required.

 

Materials Processed: Sheet steel, angle iron, wood, glass, paint, etc., cast iron, machine, tool, stainless, high speed steel forgings and blank stock, bronze, brass, aluminum and other non-ferrous alloys, and polymers.

 

Physical Demands: Various postures and positions like stooping, climbing, lifting, walking, using hoists, rollers, hand trucks, climbing up and down ladders, standing, sitting, etc.

 

Working Conditions: In and out of doors, working in non permit confined space environments, elevated positions, roofs, etc.

 

Potential Hazards: Works above (ladder, scaffold, etc) and below floor level inside and outside as necessary; work with chemicals and work in hot and cold environment; possible cuts, bruises and electrical shock. Uses insulated tools.

 

Safety of Others : Standard. Pertinent safety equipment (mandatory and other PPE as required) performs Lockout / Tagout procedures and safety checks of lifting equipment.

 

Working Procedure:

  • Receives oral and written assignment pertaining to operation to be performed specifying location and general nature of work and general and special instructions when necessary. Secures manufacturers print and/or engineering sketch of drawing pertaining to facility or machine construction and alterations.
  • Observes machine operation and/or inspects electrical/electronic circuits using various testing equipment and prints to determine or locate cause of defect. If trouble other than electrical, notify supervisor as to nature.
  • Removes, dis-assembles and repairs machines, tests and replaces electronic components as necessary.
  • Tests and repairs electronic motors, according to prescribed methods; disconnects or connects electric motors on machines and other operating equipment, replaces defective wires, and cleans or renews imperfect contacts; replaces burned out elements, fuses, light bulbs and lamps, tightens loose electrical connections on machine and equipment; disconnects, repairs and replaces electrical/electronic components as required,
  • Installs according to specifications noted on shop prints and/or manufacturers wiring diagrams, new electrical/electronic equipment for building additions and alterations, machinery retro fits, installation or relocation. Upgrade wiring diagrams as required.
  • Install, align, troubleshoot, maintain and make repairs to Numerical and Logic Control systems and Temperature Control Instrumentation by use of Oscilloscope and Control Diagnostics kits to board level or components, to include transistorized and integrated computer circuits. Tune up S.C.R. Drive Systems and make all adjustments, troubleshoot both analog and digital logic circuits, serve mechanisms, high frequency and ultrasonic equipment. Trouble shoot and repair machine control gaging.
  • Must have the ability to read and comprehend logic diagrams, parts program and be able to interface with machine controls as needed for maintenance and troubleshooting procedures. Troubleshoot and align control power supplies, servo systems and spindle drives. Run diagnostic tests as needed, work with machinist, operators, programmers and management to insure optimum performance of equipment.
