Job Summary:

This position is responsible for maintaining efficient flow in production by supplying the teams with what they need, how much is needed, when they need it, and working to removing any obstacles.  The team leader role is a functioning leader who operates equipment and leads others on the team in order to meet or exceed SKF standards for safety, quality, delivery and cost.

This position will perform a significant amount of direct production activities, however, their leadership and direction will be critical to the success of their team.

This position works directly with other team members as well Supervisors and Managers. It frequently interacts with Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and Demand Chain.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).  Utilize Lean Principles, Business Excellence, and 5S to drive improvements.
  • Assist team in reporting unsafe conditions, behaviors, or injuries appropriately and work to eliminate risks.
  • Work with Operators to ensure job specific Job Safety Analysis (JSA) is adhered to.
  • Work with Operators to assure visual and dimensional defects are both detected and corrective actions are put in place to eliminate root causes.
  • Accurately complete all quality control documentation and inspection sheets.
  • Ensure proper documentation is completed by team members (hourly losses, cleaning log, scrap without compromise procedure, etc.).
  • Coordinate workflow across the entire value stream to minimize downtime and improve productivity.
  • Work as a liaison between Planner and Supply Chain to follow production schedule, minimize broken promises and past due.  
  • Coordinate with other support functions to ensure product flow.
  • Lead or assist problem solving activities that result in production process improvements.
  • Work with Engineering Techs on process issues that require corrective action or modification.
  • Inspect parts produced for dimensional and visual quality specified in engineering prints and make dimensional adjustments when necessary.
  • Coordinate with previous, and next, shift leader to assure continuity.
  • Work with Operators to ensure Work Instructions & Run Card procedures are followed and documentation is accurate.
  • Educate operators on proper escalation procedures and react to resolve them.
  • Coordinate activities with leader to ensure proper training is provided to Operators.
  • Report issues to leadership regarding employee performance.
  • Comply with SKF Group policies and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Wear required PPE: hearing protection, safety glasses, and steel toe shoes. Other areas may also have job-related PPE such as gloves and/or sleeves and will be provided.

Education and Experience:

  • Requires hands-on experience and expertise to fulfill production requirements
  • High School diploma/GED equivalent preferred; specialized training or certification a plus
  • Ability to use the necessary computer software applications appropriate for position
  • Proficient on-the-job experience understanding math requirements for position
  • Understanding of ‘Five S’ Lean concepts
  • Must be able to read, understand, and communicate in the common language (English) to ensure safety and quality is followed.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Constant movement and standing for the duration of the shift
  • Able to sit, walk, bend, reach & pull, lift or carry up to 40lbs.
  • Able to use repetitive motion in hands, arms, and wrists
  • Exposure to factory work environment
  • Good visual and hearing acuity
