Job Purpose
We are seeking a highly motivated, technically oriented Mechanical Engineer to engage in the design and manufacture of magnetic levitation bearings, incorporating high-speed digital control systems. You will provide engineering support for design, prototype assembly and validation testing of mechatronic systems, and serial manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Design of industrial equipment using CREO to create detailed solid models and drawings for fabrication of components and final assemblies
- Design of components taking into account material properties, stress analysis, tolerancing, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacturability
- Cost reduction activities, and optimization of designs and manufacturing processes
- Determination of root cause of field failures of complex electromechanical systems, and implementing corrective and preventative actions
- Creation of Failure Modes and Effects Analyses
- Project management of improvement initiatives, completion of design conformance assessments, and technical risk management
- Maintenance of technical documentation, drawings and procedures
- Technical report writing to document the results of testing, validation and troubleshooting activities
- Potential for remote and on-site assistance of customers (some travel may be required)
- Management of multiple concurrent projects and improvement initiatives including project schedules, and creation of cost estimates
Requirements:
- Entrepreneurial spirit; self-motivated and willing to learn
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGA, or are able to apply for registration with APEGA using an Inter-Provincial Mobility Application is an asset
- Up to 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment including product design and development of manufacturing processes for electromechanical products, and working within an ISO quality system
- Experience with troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Ability to assemble what you design; this position requires excellent design skills and the ability to work with what you have built
- Experience in Mechatronics and Control Systems is an asset
- Experience with the design of magnetic circuits is an asset
- Experience with Python, C#, VBA is an asset
- Able to work under pressure to meet deadlines
- Ability to manage time across multiple projects
